EFC 2022 Scholarship Winners

We are pleased to award the E.B. Horsman & Son EFC scholarships, through the Electro-Federation Canada Scholarship Program to Emma Greville, Morgan Chen, and Marcus Gee.
Emma Greville is working towards her Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of British Columbia. Emma is actively pursuing her program with the hopes of specializing in mechatronics. She has chosen this path because of her dream of finding a career where she can use her knowledge and creativity. During her free time, she enjoys working on her digital art, playing guitar, or spending time outdoors. “My experience as an Engineering student at UBC is exciting and challenging. Daily, I am building towards a firm foundation that will equip me for a meaningful career in industries like yours,” said Emma. “E.B. Horsman & Son’s continued support of students with this scholarship opportunity makes it possible for me to focus on my studies and helps lift a financial burden. I would like to thank E.B. Horsman & Son for this Scholarship and would encourage future eligible students to apply.”
Morgan Chen is working towards his Computer Science degree at the University of Calgary, and is currently working as a junior software engineer at AvanTech Inc as a part of his Co-op. He has also worked with the City of Calgary as a recreational swim instructor. He has chosen this path because of his interest in the abstraction and inner workings of computing and the internet, and how they work in conjunction with hardware. During his spare time Morgan enjoys working on cars to expand his knowledge about the functioning and motional application of different parts. “What receiving this scholarship means to me is having the blessed opportunity to attend university, an opportunity my parents did not have when they came to Canada,” said Morgan. “Receiving this scholarship has given me the opportunity to work toward the goals I have set out for myself when I started my journey in Software Engineering, namely working toward a career in the tech industry where I can make a meaningful and beneficial impact in peoples’ day to day lives.”
Marcus Gee is currently working towards his Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Calgary. He is very passionate about sustainability and one of his main goals is to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives with his work. In addition to his studies, Marcus is a member of Project 90 club, and is currently designing and building a solar system to power a school in Ethiopia. In his free time, he is involved in exploring more about the embedded system and learning new programming languages and applications to add to his knowledge. “I am honoured and very thankful to E.B. Horsman & Son for this scholarship. I admire how E.B. Horsman supports the community in many ways, and I will strive to do the same with my future work,” said Marcus.
This marks the 8th year for E.B. Horsman & Son’s EFC scholarship program that will be offered annually to Western Canadian students to cultivate, encourage, and support their studies while exposing them to the electrical industry. E.B. Horsman & Son remains committed to providing bright and motivated students with opportunities to further their education.
